∂MLOT Mr. Edward Shaw↓Provost's Office$John McCarthy$Decision on LOTS
Location∞

I just learned from David Roode, who learned it from Ralph Gorin,
that Bob Esparza estimated three months to refurbish Cedar. Since
the computer is scheduled for 19 November, and DEC is often early,
there is not much time, especially in view of a possible strike.
Therefore, a prompt decision on location is needed unless you
can persuade Esparza to revise his time estimate. I will be gone
for two weeks, but Roode is available, and Ralph will be back for
a few days next week.

I left you the purchase requisition for the ADM-3 terminal
kits on Monday, and Bill Yundt of SCIP tells me that purchasing
still doesn't have it. SCIP is in a hurry, and maybe we are too.
It occurs to me that you may need a bit more documentation of our
intentions with regard to amortizing the terminals:

I actually intend to amortize them to one-third of their
value in two years and sell them to students, etc. at the reduced
price. If, for the purpose of borrowing from the Academic Reserve,
we need a plan that doesn't presume selling them, we could
amortize them to zero in three years. This is also an operationally
reasonable solution. In making the LOTS budget, I forgot sales tax on the
terminals, so the actual amortization per year is $14,135 not counting
interest instead of $13,334. The difference is to be extracted
from the operating expense budget.
